Forbidden Stories is recruiting
At Forbidden Stories, we believe killing the journalist should never kill the story.Every day, we continue the work of journalists who have been killed, imprisoned or threatened by pursuing the investigations they could no longer finish.
We're looking for someone who isn't ready to choose between reporting and editing.
You still want to report from the field, but you're equally motivated by helping other reporters make their investigations stronger.
You know that a great investigation can start with a flight booked the night before to meet a source, a contact list built over years of reporting, or long hours digging through leaked datasets.
You have at least ten years of experience in investigative journalism.
You've reported on complex stories involving corruption, financial crime, environmental crimes, human rights abuses or influence networks. You understand the patience investigative reporting requires: rigorous verification, uncertainty, security considerations and the value of collaborative journalism.
At Forbidden Stories, you'll combine two roles:
- reporting on international investigations alongside journalists and partner newsrooms around the world;
- serving as Deputy Editor, editing and supporting investigations led by our reporters, from shaping the narrative and strengthening source development to helping assess reporting risks in the field. You'll work closely with our Editors to oversee investigations from pitch to publication. Previous experience editing investigations and mentoring reporters would be a strong asset.
We're looking for someone who enjoys sharing experience generously. Someone who likes reading drafts, discussing reporting strategies, mentoring fellow reporters and remaining an active investigative journalist. You'll also work closely with our fact checking team, who independently verify every fact before publication.
You'll coordinate editorial calls with international partners, work in English every day and collaborate with journalists across multiple countries. Excellent written and spoken English is essential. Native English speakers with working French are particularly encouraged to apply, but we're equally interested in French-speaking journalists who are fully comfortable working in English.
The position is based in Paris and cannot be performed remotely. If you're based elsewhere, this could be an opportunity to spend a year working from our Paris newsroom.
This is a one-year fixed-term contract, starting in early September 2026.
If this sounds like you, or someone in your network, we'd love to hear from you: recrutement@forbiddenstories.org
