Funding & supporters
Forbidden Stories is a non-profit media organization. Our work is made possible thanks to the support from the public and to grants from philanthropic foundations who support our mission.
Enhancing access to critical and uncensored information for all is at the heart of our mission. This is why our stories are free to access, and why we don’t use paywalls or subscriptions. And yet, cross-border investigative journalism is among the most expensive and riskiest kinds of journalism in the world.
As a non-profit newsroom, our work is made possible by the generosity of our readers and by a wide range of institutional donors who support our mission. In addition to support from the public and to grants from philanthropic foundations and intergovernmental organizations (such as United Nations agencies), Forbidden Stories occasionally receives remuneration for its participation in conferences, sales of images for the production of documentaries on its investigations, and dividends from its subsidiary company Forbidden Films.
Forbidden Stories is independent and impartial, and retains full editorial freedom. The organization is fully independent from governments, political ideologies, religious beliefs or economic interests. Donors have no influence on our stories, nor are they made aware of our ongoing investigations. Forbidden Stories reserves the right to refuse any contribution from institutions that it believes could undermine its independence, credibility, or reputation.
Forbidden Stories also receives in-kind support from other nonprofits and companies, who have for example provided us with legal support or helped us reinforce our digital security.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the following institutional donors for supporting our mission.
