Project Miroslava

KEEP THIS STORY ALIVE

In the last 10 years, 82 journalists have been killed in Mexico. Miroslava Breach was one of them.

On March 23, 2017, in the city of Chihuahua, she was waiting in her van for her son to take him to school. A man with a cap came close and shot at her eight bullets through the windows.

Why didn’t the authorities protect her when they knew the risk she ran as a result of her bold reporting that exposed links between organised crime and politics? Why has justice been so slow and left so many loose ends? Why and who killed this reporter of  the news daily La Jornada and sharp columnist of El Norte de Juárez?

Mexican reporters formed El Colectivo 23 de marzo and joined forces with Forbidden Stories, Bellingcat, and the Latinamerican Centre for Investigative Reporting (CLIP) to create “Project Miroslava”. They investigated for over a year in order to get answers to these questions.

This Wednesday September 4, the collective is launching this three-part-series #ProjectMiroslava

The more you donate,
the more investigations we will complete.

It will send a very clear message to oppressive governments that if they touch a journalist anywhere in the world, many others will be ready to support and follow up their story.”

Khadija Ismayilova

“What you are suggesting is creating a newsroom for journalists who have no press freedom. You will get fantastic stories.

“We couldn’t allow our mother’s stories to die with her. They were too important. For them to be forgotten would have been like killing her twice.

Marina Walker

“By working together, journalists can make it harder for censorship to win. We’re proud to support Forbidden Stories.”
